Frog Peak Cafe - A Peak Experience

If you are from the Slocan valley like me, then I am sure, that the Frog Peak Cafe has long been also your favorite spot to go to and grab a fancy coffee drink, enjoy a house baked treat and have brunch. Everybody was stoked when the good folks at the Frog Peak Cafe were able to re-open their doors on May 15th, after having been closed because of the Corona pandemic. The really good news is that they are now open, for sit down eating as well as take out, every day from 8 am till 3 pm to serve their community even better. Breakfast is served until 2 pm.

What else is new? The tables inside are spaced out at safe intervals to ensure social distancing. A new plexi glass barrier graces the customer service counter. The coffee condiment station near the front door has hand sanitizer at the ready. The place looks bright and clean as always. The owners obviously pride themselves in taking all the necessary and required precautions to adhere to the latest recommendations of the health authorities.

My recent visit to the cafe was an absolute pleasure. A friend and I enjoyed the outside sheltered seating area. My favorite spot! Usually I take my grandson there because I love that the cafe provides a safe fenced-in and beautifully landscaped backyard with a play area for the kids. There is lots of shade for the adults to hang out in, a great place to meet up with friends and family. We ran into our buddy who promptly serenaded us with Willie Nelson's song " Blue eyes in the rain" while we slurped our frothy lattes. Then our lunch was brought to us with a smile. The Frog Peak Cafe bakes their own focaccia bread for their panini sandwiches which is one of their features. I had "The Wally" with maple smoked ham, turkey, bacon, tomato, spinach, red onion, cheddar and finished off with garlic mayo. My friend had "The Frog Peak". It is loaded with teriyaki chicken, spinach, roasted red peppers, red onions, aged cheddar and garlic mayo. There was not a crumb left when we were finished. So yummy! We were too late for breakfast that day which really is the main focus of the Frog Peak. I always enjoy their "Eggs Benedict". They have 8 different kinds to choose from! And they are served with the best hash browns around! The menu also boasts a kids section and healthy options such as rice or quinoa bowls, soups and salads.

I felt like treating myself, so I had a chocolate covered coconut macaroon, one of my go-to's in the cookie world. Try them at Frog Peak, theirs are delicious! One of the owners gifted me an orange blossom butter cream chocolate treat! It was delectable and very pretty.

It is easy to while away time at the Frog Peak Cafe. The relaxed ambiance is popular with locals and tourists alike. The service is fast and the staff is very friendly. The food is consistently good, made with high quality ingredients. You just can't help but feel welcome! Even our very best friends, the four legged ones are allowed to keep us company in the outdoor seating area. Furthermore there are lots of delightful decorations everywhere to look at and admire. I really get a kick out of all the different signs which are hung on the outside of the building. One of my best friends once said to me: " A business without a sign is a sign of no business." This certainly is NOT the case at the Frog Peak Cafe. This place is not just a thriving eatery but also a community hub. The latest and newest art show is an exhibition of skate boards which serve as a memorial for local professional skateboarder Josh Evin who died 10 years ago.

If you have cabin fever and crave brunch after long months of staying safely at home, make the Frog Peak Cafe your destination the next day you go out!
